Open lawns and tree-lined paths, perfect for gatherings and relaxation.

In the heart of krakow spreads błonia – a 48-hectare meadow where nature, history, and culture intertwine. in the past, it served as pasture for cows and horses, later as arable land, and also as a site for military exercises and parades. today, it is one of the favorite spots for walking, jogging, cycling, roller skating, picnics, and numerous cultural and sporting events.

Walking across this vast, flat green space, you can see areas that once stretched as far as Łobzów, Bronowice, Chełm, and Zwierzyniec. The meadow is lined with tree avenues and offers beautiful views of Kościuszko Mound, Wolski Forest, and the towers of Krakow’s Old Town. In spring and summer, it attracts runners and walkers, while in winter it becomes a place for snow play and ice skating.

HISTORY OF BŁONIA
The first records of this area date back to 1162, when it was granted to the Norbertine order. In the 14th century, after numerous disputes, it became the property of the city of Krakow. For centuries, it served as pasture and arable land, as well as a site for military exercises and the “Sokół” gymnastics society.
Before the Rudawa River was regulated, parts of the meadow were marshy and often flooded in spring, creating natural ponds and picturesque landscapes. Today, the Rudawa flows calmly along the eastern edge, adding charm and serenity to the area. Morning walks often reveal mist rising over the grass, creating a magical atmosphere.

This place has witnessed many important historical events: ceremonies of the Polish Legions, scout gatherings, anniversary celebrations such as the Cavalry Festival in 1933, the first airplane flights, and observations of Halley’s Comet in 1910. In the 20th century, papal masses were celebrated here by Pope John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI.

Between the wars, the area was expanded — Wolska Street (today Piłsudskiego) and Focha Street were extended, and residential buildings were constructed, including the Social Insurance Institution complex. During the German occupation, administrative buildings were planned here, but fortunately these plans were never realized.
