Step into one of Kraków’s most unusual historical landmarks at Fort St. Benedict, a rare example of 19th-century military architecture located in the Podgórze district. A fort protecting the southern side of Kraków

Fort St. Benedict was built between 1853 and 1856 as part of the southern defensive belt of the Kraków Fortress. Together with other forts surrounding the city, it helped protect strategic routes, the Vistula River and important districts from potential attacks.

The fort represents the Maximilian-style artillery fort, a rare architectural design characterized by a regular 16-sided structure with an internal courtyard and defensive positions. This layout allowed soldiers to defend the area from all directions.
