Earth from battlefields connected with his campaigns was placed inside the mound, turning it into a symbolic memorial rather than a traditional grave. In later decades, defensive walls and fortifications were added as part of Kraków’s fortress system.

Today the site combines a historic monument, museum spaces and preserved military architecture.
