On the edge of the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland, about 16 km north of Kraków, lies Ojcowski National Park (Ojcowski Park Narodowy) — the smallest national park in Poland and one of the most picturesque natural areas near the city. Caves and rocky shelters were used by early inhabitants for thousands of years, while medieval legends link the region with King Władysław Łokietek, who is said to have hidden in Łokietek’s Cave during his struggle for the Polish throne.

Visitors exploring the park can discover scenic walking trails through the Prądnik Valley, historic ruins in the village of Ojców, and the nearby Pieskowa Skała Castle, one of the most beautiful Renaissance castles in southern Poland.
