Step into one of Kraków’s most underrated natural areas — a landscape where limestone hills, forest trails and panoramic viewpoints meet at the edge of the city. The region of Podgórki Tynieckie, Las Tyniecki and Rezerwat Skołczanka offers a quieter, more authentic side of Kraków, far from crowded tourist routes.

Podgórki Tynieckie and landscape

The area of Podgórki Tynieckie lies about 10 km from the city center and forms part of the Bielańsko-Tyniecki Landscape Park. It is a relatively untouched, green enclave with very low population density and a strong natural character.

The landscape is shaped by limestone hills reaching up to around 250–280 m above sea level, with steep slopes, small valleys and exposed rock formations.

This terrain creates a classic Jurassic landscape, with forested ridges, xerothermic grasslands and scenic openings overlooking the Vistula valley. The area is also part of the natural narrowing of the river known as the Tyniec Gate, one of the most picturesque sections of the Vistula near Kraków.

Las Tyniecki and Rezerwat Skołczanka

Las Tyniecki is one of Kraków’s largest green areas and a perfect starting point for exploring the region. Its forest paths lead through hills, clearings and viewpoints, making it ideal for walking and nature observation.

At its center lies Rezerwat Przyrody Skołczanka, created to protect rare ecosystems and biodiversity. The reserve is especially known for its xerothermic habitats and rich insect life, making it one of the most biologically valuable areas in Kraków.

A marked educational trail allows visitors to explore the terrain while learning about its unique natural features.

Ostra Góra viewpoint

One of the highlights of the area is Ostra Góra (284 m above sea level), one of the highest points in the Tyniec hills.

Reached via forest trails, it offers panoramic views over Kraków, the Vistula valley and surrounding hills. The route itself leads through scenic woodland and quiet clearings, making the journey as enjoyable as the destination.

History and memory

Beyond its natural beauty, the area also holds traces of history. Within the reserve you can find collective graves from World War II, commemorating victims of executions carried out in this region.

These quiet memorial sites add a reflective dimension to the landscape, connecting nature with memory and history.
